St Lucia Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony is attending a special meeting of the heads of state and government of PetroCaribe and ALBA in Caracas.

The meeting was convened to “discuss matters related to Petro Caribe and ALBA,” according to a statement.

“Venezuela and ALBA have been exceedingly generous to Saint Lucia and this is another opportunity to say thank you,” Anthony said. “The ALBA Bridge was recently completed and our students are currently receiving laptops made available by Venezuela. To date we have received over $37 million in grant funding from ALBA. For this we are grateful.”

The visit was slated to include a meeting with Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro and officials from ALBA to “discuss support and financing for new projects.”

Anthony was set to return to the island Friday night on a plane provided by the Venezuelan government.

St Lucia joined ALBA last year.
