Nassau, Bahamas-born outfielder Antoan Richardson is back in Major League Baseball, and this time for the league’s preeminent franchise: the New York Yankees, aka the Bronx Bombers.

Richardson made news when he was first called up by the Atlanta Braves in 2011, as the sixth-ever Bahamian to play in the Major Leagues, following in a line that began with Andre Rodgers’ debut in 1957for the then-New York Giants.

Richardson was officially promoted to the Yankees at the beginning of this month, and is off to a strong start, batting .364 with five stolen bases in just 10 games.

It’s a showing that could perhaps gain him a spot on the team’s 25-man roster as a speedy threat off the bench.

He also got some congratulations from Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie, who is in New York City this week for the United Nations General Assembly meeting.

The country’s Ministry of Tourism has also expressed an interest in partnering with the Yankees to promote the destination’s brand.
