The Caribbean’s Best Churros

PLAYA DEL CARMEN — The long strings of fried dough known as “churros” originated in Spain, but have long been mainstays in much of Latin America, from Bolivia to Mexico.

That means they’re also quite popular on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, and at a small booth on the main drag in Playa del Carmen, Fifth Avenue, there’s a rather special variety.

Here in Mexico, churros are often filled with various sauces, from chocolate to blackberry.

And at Churros bueno, they’ve done something rather innovative: they melt down the popular European chocolate Kinder Bueno into a sauce, and fill the “churros rellenos” with it.

The result is a show-stopper — it’s one of the best desserts we’ve ever tasted at Caribbean Eats, and simply a must-visit for any trip to Playa del Carmen.

Simply put, they’re the Caribbean’s best churros — hands down.
