NASSAU — Construction at the Baha Mar project is moving along ahead of the resort’s planned December 2014 opening date.

The project, which is the largest in the Caribbean, includes 2,200 rooms across three hotels, including the Rosewood, Grand Hyatt and SLS, the last of which signed on to the property earlier this month following the departure of Morgans Hotels.

CJ got a close look at the project while on location in Nassau last week:

Also making progress is Royal Blue, the 18-hole, par-72 Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, located across from the complex.

Adjacent to the property is the recently-rebranded Melia, the former Sheraton resort that will officially become part of the Baha Mar in December. That project is also under renovation although it remains open as work is being done.

The Baha Mar, which broke ground in February 2011, is being built by the China State Construction and Engineering Corporation, which was designated as the general contractor on the project in 2010.

The state-owned CSCEC also has a preferred equity investment in the project.

The project was designed by Michael Hong Architects, with interior design by Dianna Wong Architecture + Interior Design.
