St Lucia Sustainable Development Minister James Fletcher held talks last week with a delegation from the German International Cooperation Agency.

The purpose of the meeting was for Germany’s delegation to “better informed on Saint Lucia’s programmes in sustainable energy, climate change and water resource management and to explore avenues for strengthening the cooperation programme between the German government and the Government of Saint Lucia in these areas,” according to a statement from the government of St Lucia.

For his part, Fletcher updated the German delegation on St Lucia’s role in mobilizing international support for climate change adaptation and mitigation programmes in the region.

He urged Germany to help in mobilizing financial support for climate change activities in Small Island Developing States like St Lucia.

Germany has been working on several projects in St Lucia of late, including a programme to promote energy efficiency, studies on the establishment of a wind farm and a water supply improvement project in Dennery and Vieux Fort.

The German delegation was led by Klaus Kraemer, who “pledged continued support from the German government for Saint Lucia’s sustainable development programme,” the government said.
