CARICOM Secretary General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque concluded an official visit to Chile on Tuesday.

LaRocque was leading a delegation that included CARICOM Assistant Secretary General Colin Granderson on a two-day visit to Santiago.

On Monday, LaRocque met with Chilean Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz, calling CARICOM-Chile cooperation “strong and meaningful.”

For his part, Muñoz said CARICOM was “very much on Chile’s radar,” assuring LaRocque that the bilateral cooperation would continue.

LaRocque additionally met with Chilean Vice Foreign Minister Edgardo Riveros, reviewing the 2012-2014 plan of action for CARICOM-Chile cooperation with Jorge Daccarrett, executive director of the Chilean International Cooperation Agency.

The plan of action covers areas including education, agriculture, disaster management, health and programmes for CARICOM deiplomats.

The visit wrapped up on Tuesday with discussions at the Santiago-based headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

CARICOM and CHILE last held their bilateral joint commission in 2012.
