Puerto Rico is planning a $26.5 million “revitalization” plan for the island’s waterfront areas, Puerto Rico Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla announced.

The projects will target the waterfront areas in the municipalities of Arroyo, Cataño, Naguabo, Patillas , Salinas and Santa Isabel and the coastal towns of Boqueron, Cabo Rojo, and La Parguera.

The project scould create more than 300 jobs in different stages of construction, along with 145 permanent jobs upon completion, he said.

They will entail work on boulevards, promenades, plazas and playgrounds “among other developments,” according to Padilla.

The plan would entail distributions of $2.5 million for Arroyo, Naguabo, Patillas, Salinas and Santa Isabel. The town of Boqueron and the boardwalk of Cataño would receive $5 million each, while La Paguera would receive $4 million.

The funding comes from a legislative appropriation made last year to the Public Improvement Fund, he said.

The Governor said architectural students from the Catholic University of Puerto Rico had helped create the conceptual framework for the eight revitalization projects.
