Martinique Regional Council President Serge Letchimy hosted a delegation this week from the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago for talks on energy cooperation.

The talks, which were held in Fort-de-France on Wednesday and Thursday, followed a meeting in June between Letchimy and Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

The discussions covered the quantities available, the quality of gas, their cost and possible logistics solutions for delivering gas, either by freight or by pipeline.

In a statement, Letchimy said the delegation’s visit “reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen regional cooperation links between Trinidad and Martinique.”

Also on hand for the talks were officials from the Eastern Caribbean Gas Pipeline Company, which is spearheading the high-profile pipeline project that would deliver gas from Trinidad to Barbados, and ultimately other islands in the Eastern Caribbean, including Martinique, Guadelopue, Dominica and St Lucia.
