Construction on the airport terminal expansion project in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos is 60 percent complete, according to the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority.

The project is slated to become full operational in the winter closer to 2015, according to the TCIAA.

In a release, the TCIAA said the expansion was “well in its second phase of construction,” including new domestic bathrooms, the extension of the international check in area and extension of the security check point, among other work.

The Airports Authority said the new check-in area had already been made available in a raw state, with construction to continue after its opening.

The TCIAA said the $10 million project would make TCI one of the first Caribbean countries to have a “fully-functioning multi-use check-in kiosks complete with bag tag printing systems.”

Construction on the project began in the summer of 2013.
