Startup air carrier Haiti Aviation has suspended its flights “until further notice,” the company said in a statement on Friday.

The North Miami-based company said it had had to deal with “major financial constraints” from the outset, and that, without “tangible solutions immediately effective support” it had to close its flights.

The company, which launched its first flights from Miami to Port-au-Prince in July, had encountered a series of administrative and legal issues since that time.

It had been operating flights to both Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien on an MD 83 plane.

The company was among several carriers looking to take advantage of the increasingly popular Florida-Haiti route; another carrier, JetBlue, launched service from Fort Lauderdale to Port-au-Prince earlier this month.

“We apologize to all of our customers and we want to reassure you to the effect that all of us are doing everything in our power now to bring practical solutions to problems and act in the best interest of all,” the company wrote.
