St Lucia’s government will be implementing a $925,925 grant to support business incubation and training in the area of information and communication technology.

The funding, which is under the auspices of the Caribbean Regional Infrastructure Programme (CARCIP), will support efforts to “nurture local innovation,” the government said.

“The aim is to develop a more sustainable entrepreneurial base by providing financing for business development activities aimed at promoting the creation of an ICT-enabled industry,” the government said in a statement.

The training portion of the grant will provide resources to train and certify young people in the country on IT-related skills, like software and app development, database management and web development.

The government said the training would be “market-driven and accredited at the regional and international level.”

CARCIP was officially launched in April of this year, aiming to increase access to regional broadband networks and improve the development of ICT in St Lucia.
