Xander Bogaerts made history on Wednesday night.

The Aruba native became the first player from Aruba to ever win a World Series championship, as the Boston Red Sox defeated the St Louis Cardinals, 6-1, to take the series, four games to two.

Bogaerts, a young phenom who only joined the Red Sox in August, was also the first player from Aruba to play in a World Series.

He started at third base and batted seventh in Game 6, finishing the series with a .238 average and one RBI.

Bogaerts played a big role in helping the Sox make it to the Fall Classic, with a stellar performance in the series-clinching game against the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series.

Bogaerts is the fifth player from Aruba to play in the Major Leagues, part of a Dutch Caribbean region that is quickly becoming a significant source of major talent — particularly Curacao.
