St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas began an official visit to Taiwan on Wednesday.

The visit came at the invitation of Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, according to the government. It was aimed at “wooing Taiwan manufacturers to set up businesses, specifically manufacturing plants in the Federation.”

“It is in keeping with my Government’s policy of seeking new business which will provide job opportunities for Kittitians and Nevisians, injecting foreign direct investment and grow the economy,” Douglas said in a statement.

Douglas is leading a six-member delegation to the country, joined by officials including Cabinet Secretary Joseph Edmeade and Linkon Maynard, chairman of the St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank, among others.

The visit will include a meeting with the chairman of Taiwan’s Foreign Trade Concil, a courtesy call with Ma on Friday and a state banquet hosted by Ma.

On Saturday, Douglas will meet with the Embassy of St Kitts and Nevis in Taipei.
