Resorts World Bimini has launched the second phase of its 350-room luxury marina hotel project in Bimini.

Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie was on hand Wednesday to sign an agreement to develop a master plan in Bimini, and also announced plans to expand South Bimini Airport’s runway from 5,400 feet to 6,000 feet.

“What is so significant about this is that it boggles the imagination when one tries to understand how 350 rooms would be here in three months from today,” Christie said.

Resorts World Bimini recently launched a fast ferry service from Miami which has already brought 20,000 visitors to Bimini, Christie said, with an annual projection of 400,000 visitors each year.

The expansion is part of a wider $150 million development plan by Resorts World Bimini on the island, with plans to complete the top three floors, or 300 rooms, by Christmas 2013.

The remaining 50 garden villa suites are slated for completion by January.

The expansion could add 350 new jobs to Bimini upon completion, according to the government.
