Emmanuel Menard, the president of Haiti’s recently-formed Transitional College of the Permanent Electoral Council, held talks with OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza in Barbados last week.

The talks came within the context of a meeting on political financing being held in Barbados.

The electoral council was formed in Haiti in April after months of delay, paving the way for a series of local and legislative elections in the territory. A date for the vote has not yet been set.

The two sides discussed electoral matters, the planned elections and the potential help the OAS can offer during the process, according to a statement from the regional body.

The council includes three members from each branch of Haiti’s government.
