Attorneys and experts from the United States will meet in Grand Cayman Thursday for a conference covering issues facing the hedge fund industry.

The conference, “Litigation Updates for the Hedge Fund Industry,” aims to provide the hedge fund community outside of the United States with an update on current and new issues facing the industry.

“Hedge fund litigation is a critical issue in the Caribbean,” said Adam Moskowitz, an attorney at Miami-based Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton.

And it is of particular significance in the Cayman Islands, he said, “one of the world’s largest banking centres and one of the fastest-growing locations for hedge fund managers.”

“Nearly all the world’s major financial institutions have Cayman branches, and financial services provide one of the island’s largest sources of employment,” he said. “Emerging issues in hedge fund litigation are keenly felt here.”

The conference’s panel will include Boris Onefater, president and CEO of Constellation Investment Consulting and Timothy Lee, a former financial executive and senior policy advisor at the Federal Housing Finance Agency Office of the Inspector General.

Lee will address the issue of LIBOR litigation, a growing concern for executives and attorneys worldwide.

Moskowitz himself will address current developments in hedge fund litigation since the US Supreme Court decision in Morrison v National Australia Bank.

He will be joined by John Kozyak, a fellow partner at Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, at the conference, which begins at the Westin on Seven Mile Beach on Thursday afternoon at 3 PM.
