Martinique’s Fishermen to Receive $2.7 Million in French Aid

Fishermen in Martinique will soon be receiving $2.66 million (2 million Euros) in aid.
The French department’s fishing sector has been hit hard of late by evidence of pollution of coastal waters by chlordecone, also known as kepone, according to the French government.
The emergency funding is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding at the end of December.
French Overseas Minister Victorin Lurel, a native of Guadeloupe, along with Junior Minister for Ecology Frederic Cuvillier, said the state was committed to quickly providing the funding.
