Anguilla Chief Minister Hubert Hughes has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a new hotel in Shoal Bay, the government announced.

The signing paves the way for a new hotel project called the Manoah Hotel on the site of the KU.

The new hotel is estimated to cost just over $20 million, and would feature 34 rooms.

Most of the existing KU would be demolished under the plan, with a reconfiguration that would increase the room component by seven rooms and “significantly upgrade the character and amenities of the hotel,” according to the government.

The project will also include a commercial component, including boutiques and restaurants, but will not have a condominium component, Hughes said.

The developer, Sandor Schneider, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.

The KU hotel is currently closed.
