Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe has departed the country for Vietnam for a four-day official visit.

The trip will include a meeting with Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, and President Truong Tan Sang, aiming to establish new partnerships in “agriculture, education, energy, trade and industry,” according to a statement.

Lamothe, who will be joined by an unspecified ministerial delegation, will also meet with Vietnamese investors potentially interested in the recently-opened Caracol Industrial Park.

Haiti and Vietnam will reportedly sign three agreements.

The first, covering investment promotion, will specifically focus on promoting the textile industry, tourism, agro-industry and energy; the second will focus on strengthening the institutional capacity of the Haitian government.

The final agreement aims to supply rice to the Haitian market at “preferential prices.”

Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin will act as Prime Minister during Lamothe’s absence.
