Jamaica’s Usain Bolt surged to a victory in the men’s 200-metre final Thursday as countrymen Yohan Blake and Warren Weir took silver and bronze, respectively.

It was a clean sweep for Jamaica, the country’s first, as Blake earned the silver with a time of 19.44 and Warren Weir, the former hurdler, earned the Bronze. He finished in 19.84, as all three Jamaicans finished in under 20 seconds.

It represented a golden sweep for Bolt, who also took gold in the men’s 100-metre sprint in London, and meant Olympic history. He is the first man in Olympic history to successfully defend his 100m and 200m Olympic titles.

Bolt finished in 19.32, just holding off Blake. It was a tremendous bend for Bolt who, as has been a pattern, surged in the second half of the race.

It was a double repeat for Bolt, who also swept both races in 2008 in Beijing.

Jamaica has now earned 9 medals in London.
