Usain Bolt remains the world’s fastest man.

Bolt, the 2008 champion in Beijing in the men’s 100-metre race, defended his crown in London, besting fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake with a time of 9.63.

Halfway through the race, Bolt exploded through the field, finishing with a new Olympic record of 9.63. He had set the Olympic record in Beijing.

Blake, who had been challenging Bolt for track supremacy, finished with the silver in 9.75 seconds.

Justin Gatlin, who had posted the best time in the semifinal, had attacked early, but Bolt surged to storm past the field. He won the bronze with his own personal best.

It brought Jamaica its second gold medal in London. The country now has four medals in total in these Games. And not just that — Jamaica now has two of the three fastest men in the world, and two of the world’s three fastest women.

Bolt had been the first Jamaican to win the Olympic title in 2008.

Asafa Powell finished in eighth place.
