Haiti President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe have both expressed their satisfaction about the recently-concluded Carnival of Flowers in Port-au-Prince.
Martelly thanked those who contributed to the event, which was the third major festival in Haiti this year. The centre of the national fete was situated in the recently-cleaned-up Champ de Mars.
There were differing estimates on the number of people who attended the three-day festival, ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands, the latter a report from the National Palace.
Lamothe praised what he called the “reasonable and responsible” attitude of the attendees.
Haiti’s government had set up a mobile mini-hospital for the event led by First Lady Sophia Martelly aimed at treating revelers suffering injuries and maladies during the festival, from poor ventilation to bruises.
