CARICOM Secretary General Irwin LaRocque will make an official visit to Jamaica on Wednesday.

LaRocque will hold talks with Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on the first day of his three-day trip, the tenth to a CARICOM member state since taking office in August 2011.

He will also meet with Foreign Minister Sen. AJ Nicholson and Industry Minister Anthony Hylton.

Nicholson has previously expressed concern with the issue of free movement within CARICOM; while legislation exists, he has said that the implementation process has been lacking. It is likely the subject will come up during the talks with LaRocque.

The trip will include a ceremony marking the opening of the University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters building at UWI’s Mona campus. LaRocque will pay a courtesy call on Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Harris as well.
