American Airlines Is Making It Easier to Fly to Bonaire

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - March 26, 2024

A buzzing culinary scene anchored by the Caribbean’s number one restaurant. A growing number of authentic, hip hotels and resorts. And did we mention some of the best diving and snorkeling on earth?

The Dutch Caribbean island has been one of the biggest success stories of the post-pandemic era in the Caribbean, and with arrivals at an all-time high, American Airlines is planning to ramp up its service to the island.

Beginning in December, American Airlines will be expanding to five weekly flights between Miami and Bonaire, Caribbean Journal has learned. That comes after the recent announcement of a fourth weekly flight set to launch this summer on Fridays.

The expanded service will mean two daily flights on Saturdays, with service taking effect on Dec. 7, 2024.

That will mean one flight departing Miami at 10:05 AM on Saturdays, and a second flight departing at 12:05 PM on Saturdays, a huge boost for the island.

American is operating all the flights on Boeing 737 aircraft.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with American Airlines and offer enhanced connectivity to Bonaire,” Miles Mercera, CEO of Tourism Corporation Bonaire, said in a statement. “This strategic move not only strengthens our ties with American Airlines but also amplifies our ability to attract secondary markets in North America.”

Bonaire continues to see sizzling tourism numbers, with a particularly strong start to the year so far in 2024 after a banner year in 2023.
