The Best Things to Do (And Where to Stay) in Merida, Mexico

By: Joe Pike - January 13, 2024

Mérida, capital of the state of Yucatán, is one of the most beautiful places in México.

And there’s one hotel you should definitely consider staying at.

Fiesta American Merida has 371 newly remodeled rooms. The best room here is the Superior Room with a King bed.

This room includes a King Size bed, balcony with a spectacular view of the city or pool, desk, armchair, 55-inch flat screen satellite TV, high speed internet access, temperature control a mini bar, purified water, electronic lock, closet with digital safe, ironing kit and full-length mirror.

In each of them, you will find a modern interior design, comfortable furniture and exclusive amenities. If you want even more benefits, stay at Fiesta Club, which gives you access to the Lounge Club, where you will get welcome wine.

The sensory experience includes an aromatherapy menu with the ideal essence that allows you to select between our Relax, Aqua, Tranquility, Romance, and Energy fragrances.

The lighting system is adjustable so you can create the atmosphere that best suits your mood. Each room has automated curtains that open as soon as you walk in, exposing the sunrise of the Mexican-Caribbean

Dine at Restaurante Regional Yucatec

At the hotel’s signature eatery, Yucatecan cuisine occupies a privileged place in Restaurante Regional Yucateco. The dishes are made with typical ingredients and in each one of them you will enjoy an unequaled seasoning.

Chichén Itzá

One of the Yucatan Peninsula’s most noteworthy landmarks, Chichen Itza is a complex of Mayan ruins dating back to around 600 AD. The largest structure within these ruins is a stepped pyramid called El Castillo; additional structures include the Temple of the Warriors and the Wall of Skulls, both of which feature stone carvings.

It’s about an hour away from Merida. Try to get there as early as you can and go during the morning. It is not as hot as usual and there are far less people there, enabling you to get an obstructed IG shot.

El Gran Museo del Mundo Maya

Embark on an interesting visit to the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya. Inaugurated in 2012, it has six rooms in total: four dedicated to permanent exhibitions and two for temporary ones. In fact you can find a total of 800 archaeological pieces on display in the greater region.

Make a Visit to Uxmal

Yucatan is a state full of interesting and amazing places such as Chichén Itzá, one of the seven wonders of the modern world, and Uxmal, which was one of the main Mayan world cities. It also has excellent beaches such as Celestún, Sisal and Puerto Progreso.

In Merida, capital of the State, you can visit the Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, admire the Cathedral of Yucatan and enjoy the Serenade in Santa Lucia, the game Pok Ta Poc, the Vaquería Yucateca and much more.
