United Airlines Adding More Flights to Nassau, Montego Bay

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 27, 2023

United Airlines has a big expansion planned for the winter season in the Caribbean, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The airline is planning to increase its Latin America-Caribbean network by 25 percent for the peak travel season in the region, anchored by an increase to the Caribbean and Mexico.

The highlights? United Airlines will be flying two daily flights between Newark and Aruba, Nassau in The Bahamas; and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Out of Newark, United will also be operating daily flights to Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

That’s along with three weekly flights between Newark and the increasingly hot Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire.

Belize is also getting a boost, with the hip getaway on the Caribbean coast of Central America set to receive two daily nonstop flights out of Houston.

Unsurprisingly, the carrier is also ramping up flights to the Mexican Caribbean vacation capital of Cancun, with four daily flights from Chicago and daily flights from Cleveland (the latter for the peak festive season, before reducing to six weekly flights in March).

The Caribbean expansion comes as United also plans to launch nonstop flights to the Caribbean’s newest airport in Tulum (part of a push by most major US carriers to the Bohemian hotspot.

United already launched new nonstop service between Denver and two Caribbean destinations: San Juan, Puerto Rico and Montego Bay, Jamaica at the end of October. https://www.caribjournal.com/2023/10/31/united-puerto-rico-new-flights-nonstop-daily/

Just about all of the major US carriers, from American Airlines to Delta, are considerably increasing their flights to the Caribbean for the winter, in a strong sign of confidence for the upcoming tourist season.

Caribbean hotels continue to perform strongly in the current shoulder season, another positive indicator for what is expected to be a busy holiday season in the region.
