United Airlines Is Launching Nonstop Flights to the New Airport in Tulum

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 17, 2023

The Mexican Caribbean hotspot of Tulum is about to get its first-ever international airport. Now, another major carrier is planning to launch flights to the destination, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Following Delta’s high-profile announcement of Atlanta-Tulum flights (followed by a similar launch by Spirit Airlines) United Airlines has revealed a major push to Tulum beginning next year.

On March 31, 2024, United Airlines will be kicking off nonstop flights from Newark, Houston and Chicago to Tulum.

On May 23, the carrier will add daily seasonal flights between Los Angeles and Tulum as well, meaning up to five daily flights on United to Tulum next summer.

The airline launches sales for the flights this weekend.

It’s another significant boost for Tulum, which began as a bohemian getaway and has become one of the hottest travel spots in Mexico, with a wave of major hotel brands entering the market and sizzling visitor numbers.

“Tulum is at the top of a lot of travel lists – great beaches and restaurants, and a region featuring a rich history and spectacular natural beauty,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s senior vice president of Network Planning and Alliances. “Our new direct flights help people get there faster than ever, giving them even more time to enjoy one of Mexico’s most unique destinations.”

United says it will be the largest airline between the United States and the Mexican Caribbean this winter, with more than 200 weekly flights to Cancun International Airport out of eight US cities.
