CARICOM, Chile Conclude Talks

The Caribbean Community and the government of Chile concluded their second CARICOM-Chile Joint Commission this weekend in Santiago.

The talks are the development of the formalization of relations between the two sides in Chile in 1996, when the Standing Joint Commission on Consultation, Cooperation and Coordination was established.

CARICOM was represented by a number of Caribbean foreign ministers, including Trinidad FM Dr Surujrattan Rambachan.

Since the two parties established diplomatic ties, Chile has provided CARICOM with technical assistance in several areas, including Spanish language training, trade negotiations and the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The discussions included issues like renewable energy, agriculture and health.
