Kimpton Is Opening Its Newest Caribbean Resort on Roatan Island

By: Alexander Britell - April 2, 2023

Before the pandemic, it was one of the most highly-anticipated hotel projects in the Caribbean. Since then, it’s fallen off the radar.

But now Kimpton’s first-ever resort in the Western Caribbean is officially opening its doors this summer, with the debut of the new Kimpton Grand Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras.

The hotel, which is opening this summer, will be the first-ever internationally-branded resort on the beloved Honduran island of Roatan.

The hotel, owned and developed by Vista Capital, is a complete reimagining of the former Grand Roatan Caribbean Resort.

The resort will have 119 guest rooms and suites, four dining and beverage outlets, a destination spa called Kao Kamasa and around 6,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space.

It will be the third Caribbean resort for Kimpton, joining the renowned Kimpton + Seafire Resort in Grand Cayman and the Kimpton Aluna Resort in Tulum, which opened in 2021

Kimpton is also planning to open its first-ever Caribbean all-inclusive resort with the in-development Kimpton Hacienda Tres Rios Resort, Spa and Nature Park in the Riviera Maya on the Caribbean coast of Mexico.

The resort will include a destination spa.

That’s one of two Kimptons slated to open in the Mexican Caribbean, along with another hotel coming to the hip beach town of Playa del Carmen.

The new Kimpton in Roatan has already appointed its leadership team, with general manager Carlos Lopez and Stephanie Tablada as director of sales and marketing.

“I am thrilled to begin my new role as general manager of Kimpton Grand Roatán Resort & Spa” Lopez said. “Being able to represent Roatan’s newest luxury hotel is an honor, and I can’t wait to hit the ground running with fresh and innovative ideas, inviting our guests to make the most of their visit to the island.”

Kimpton is part of the IHG portfolio.
