Royal Caribbean Cuts First Steel on New Cruise Ship

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 20, 2023

Royal Caribbean has cut the first steel on its newest cruise ship, the second in its Icon Class.

The as-yet-unnamed ship will be the second in the class; the first, Icon of the Seas, will take to the seas in January 2024; this ship will launch sailings in 2025.

The new ship, which is being built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, held its steel cutting ceremony in Turku last week.

Icon was first reveled last October, setting a record at Royal Caribbean for the most single bookings in a single day in the company’s history.

The Icon class includes everything from Chill Island, a three-deck pools cape with four different pools and the first swim-up bar at sea; to The Hideaway, which includes the first “suspended” infinity pool at sea.

“With each new ship, we raise the bar in the travel industry while enhancing what our guests know and love,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group. “From the moment they step on board, every experience is specifically designed to give them the best vacation anywhere on land and at sea.”

Royal Caribbean said the ship’s name would be revealed “at a later date.”
