St Lucian Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony held talks with the country’s Chamber of Commerce yesterday aimed at improving the environment for the ease of doing business in the country.

“Upon reflection of what obtains now, and what has been done in the past, it is imperative that we use this period of economic adjustment in a creative way to address and resolve our existing issues,” Anthony said. “That includes identifying the bottlenecks in the administrative and financial systems and coming up with ways to eliminate them.”

St Lucia has been among the top countries in the Caribbean for ease of doing business in recent years, although its global ranking has fallen in recent years.

Over the summer, St Lucia was ranked as the top island in the Caribbean for ease of doing business, and in a report earlier this month by the US-based Heritage Foundation, it was ranked as having the most economic freedom in the Caribbean.

The two sides agreed to establish a three-member task force to review and assess the “ease of doing business in St Lucia.”
