The Barbadian Ministry of Education and the Brewster Trust will work with UK club Arsenal on a football programme aimed at helping primary and secondary students build confidence, promote discipline and raise self-esteem.

The pilot programme, which begins Jan. 30, will last until the end of the academic year.

While the plan will teach students sporting skills, it will also have a place in the classroom, aiming to combine literacy skill instruction with football coaching.

Another portion of the programme will involve coaches in Barbados spending four months at Arsenal Football Club and assisting with some of the club’s sport and education programmes.

The Brewster Trust is a registered charity in Barbados.
