Air Canada, WestJet Returning to Puerto Rico

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 13, 2022

Two major Canadian carriers are returning to Puerto Rico for the upcoming winter season, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Both Air Canada and WestJet will be resuming their service to Puerto Rico for the high season, according to Carlos Mercado Santiago, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

Air Canada will be flying to San Juan, Puerto Rico from both Toronto and Montreal. The Montreal service will begin on Dec. 3, with two flights each week.

WestJet will be operating a weekly flight from Toronto to San Juan on Saturdays.

Another vacation provider, Transat, will be launching weekly flights from Toronto to San Juan on Dec. 20, and from Montreal to San Juan on Dec. 25.

All three airlines are running their Puerto Rico service through the end of April 2023.

“We welcome the first flights of Air Canada, WestJet and Air Transat, which join the recently recovered route operated by the Canadian line Transat, which connects us with two of the most important cities in Canada,” Mercado said. “The restart of this service during the high season of our tourism industry increases the offer and accessibility of our destination, providing a magnificent opportunity to continue expanding the projection of Puerto Rico in international markets and thus increase the contribution of Tourism to the economic development of the Island.”

Mercado said the total economic impact of the relaunched routes would total more than $14.4 million.

They will add more than 23,000 seats to available inventory between November and April.
