Jamaica, Cayman Islands Eye Multi-Destination Vacations

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - August 13, 2022

A three-day vacation on Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach followed by another four days in Ocho Rios or Montego Bay?

That’s the thinking behind a new collaboration push by Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.

The two destinations have kickstarted talks to collaborate on tourism “in order to leverage the strong historical ties and synergies between both nations to boost their tourism sectors,” according to a statement from the Jamaican Ministry of Tourism.

That includes areas like multi-destination tourism, airlift, enhancing border protocols and resilience building.

The talks come just as Cayman Airways relaunched the company’s regularly-scheduled service between Montego Bay and Grand Cayman.

Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett led the talks with a delegation headed by the Cayman Islands’ Christopher Saunders, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance and Economic Development and Minister of Border Control & Labour and  Kenneth Bryan, Minister of Tourism & Transport.

A core idea, Bartlett says, is to develop a special tourism package that can be presented to market to promote multi-destination tourism “and enhance the regional tourism product.”
