The Dominican Republic Just Set an All-Time Tourism Record

By: Alexander Britell - August 7, 2022

Tourism in the Dominican Republic is growing at a dazzling pace in 2022, and the country just set another record.

The month of July saw the most visitors to the Dominican Republic in a single month in the country’s history, exceeding even that of December 2021.

The news was shared by Dominican Republic Tourism Minister David Collado this week.

It means that the Dominican Republic is now on pace to exceed 7 million tourists in 2022, a number that would also be an all-time record.

The country in July welcomed 735,064 visitors, a 24 percent increase over July 2019, and a 30 percent jump compared to July 2021.

“We did it again. We achieved an extraordinary month in the arrival of tourists to the Dominican Republic,” Collado said.

July 2022 and December 2021 are the only months in the country’s history in which it received more than 700,000 tourists.

The United States continues to dominate visitor arrivals to the country, followed by Canada, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Spain, Cuba and the United Kingdom.

If the pace continues, 2022 will be “the best year of tourism in [our] history,” Collado said.

So far, the Dominican Republic has welcomed a total of 4.182 million visitors in 2022.
