The Caribbean’s Newest Hospitality School Is in Dominica

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 22, 2022

GEMS Holdings, the hospitality company behind the world-renowned Secret Bay resort in Dominica, is launching a new hospitality school.

The school, part of a broader philanthropic initiative, will help young people in Dominica “gain practical skills in various aspects of hospitality, including food and beverage, housekeeping, front desk operations, security, and bartending,” according to GEMS.

The main objective is to develop a cadre for Dominicans who not only have theoretical and/or practical knowledge of tourism and hospitality, but are passionate about working in the tourism industry and “understand its importance to Dominica.”

Each hospitality program will run for three months, with the next intake focusing on food and beverage, front desk and housekeeping on Aug. 15.

On Oct. 15, a three-month program will cover food and beverage, villa host and concierge.

GEMS is also launching a new foundation focused on the environment, entrepreneurship, education and entertainment and the arts.

“The mission of GEMS has always been about combining environmental consciousness with a commitment to delivering authentic, life-enriching experiences,” said Gregor Nassief, CEO of GEMS. “We remain focused on our staff and guests, but now we’re also creating a path and opportunity for others, as well as giving even more attention to the environment.”
