Looking for a Budget-Friendly Montego Bay Vacation? There’s a New Hotel for That
It’s home to one of the most famous streets in the Caribbean, named after one of Jamaica’s global music icons: Jimmy Cliff Boulevard.
While the heavily-trafficked street has seen its share of ups and downs in recent decades, that’s been changing: in fact, downtown Montego Bay has been experiencing something of a renaissance: first, there was the game-changing debut of the S Hotel; then, a revamped waterfront. (Montego Bay is even getting a major new residential real estate development).
The area continues to see new tourism energy, and that includes its latest addition: the Hotel 39, a dramatic transformation of the former Wexford hotel in the heart of Mobay.
The 81-room hotel, which is not all-inclusive, has a beautiful rooftop infinity pool, a colorful lobby bar and a spa, among other amenities.
The Hotel 39 has an on-site, all-day eatery called Alexander’s, a regular Sunday brunch out on the resort’s patio and a pool bar, too.
There is also a coffee shop called Cafe 39 (with both coffee and adult beverages).
But the biggest story might just be the price: the average nightly rate for a stay during President’s Day weekend starts at just $200 – far below most of its neighbors on the north coast of Jamaica. Those rates fall below $200 if you’re looking for stays in April and beyond.
It’s a cheap but authentic option for couples or families looking for a getaway in Jamaica’s most popular tourism destination. But it’s also another big step for the rebirth of downtown Mobay.
Of course, Montego Bay has a range of outstanding hotels and resorts to fit all budgets; whether you want an intimate, boutique-style all-inclusive experience at the fantastic S Hotel or a classic luxe getaway at the new Eclipse at Half Moon, the area has something for every kind of traveler.
