Frontier Is Opening a Crew Base in Puerto Rico

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 19, 2024

Since the pandemic, no carrier has added more new routes in the Caribbean than Frontier Airlines, particularly to the island of Puerto Rico. Now, the low-cost carrier is expanding at the island’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport with a new crew base.

The new base, which is slated to open in June, will employ up to 90 pilots and another 200 flight attendants.

“We wish to extend our utmost appreciation to the Puerto Rican government, and our tourism and business partners on the island, as we prepare to open our 13th crew base in San Juan,” said Barry Biffle, CEO, Frontier Airlines.

Since 2019, Frontier has doubled its seat capacity to Puerto Rico, now flying a total of 14 nonstop routes to San Juan.

Frontier also flies from Orlando to both Aguadilla on the west coast and Puerto Rico’s “Second City” of Ponce.

“Our base will provide significant economic impact and new jobs for Puerto Ricans. A crew base also helps support smooth flight operations — benefiting customers flying to and from the island who will have access to a wide variety of destinations, including a number of underserved markets, as we continue to grow our Puerto Rico operations.”
