With just about every major American carrier announcing plans to fly to Tulum’s new airport, it’s no surprise that Canada’s top airline is getting into the game.

Air Canada has announced plans to launch nonstop flights from both Montreal and Toronto to Tulum next spring, the latest airline to signal its intent to serve Tulum’s brand-new international airport.

Toronto-Tulum flights will be operating twice weekly, with service on Fridays and Sundays. The year-round flights will kick off on May 3.

As for Montreal-Tulum service, flights will be operating once-weekly on Saturdays, with service beginning on May 4.

“We are excited to add two brand new destinations to our global network, Tulum, Mexico from our Toronto and Montreal hubs,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President for revenue and network planning at Air Canada.

Tulum, set about two hours south of Cancun in Riviera Maya, the has become one of the hottest destinations in the wider Caribbean-Mexico region in recent years, turning what was a low-key beach town into a booming travel destination.

“Without connectivity there is no tourism, and the two new routes to the new Tulum International Airport, which is ready to receive five million passengers, will boost the arrival of tourists from our second most important source market for international tourists,” said Miguel Torruco Marqués, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism
