American Airlines Is Adding More Flights to Barbados, Anguilla

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 21, 2023

American Airlines is planning another major expansion of service to the wider Caribbean next summer, with plans for a wave of new daily flights to destinations like Anguilla and Barbados.

It’s another reminder that the Caribbean has become a true year-round destination — not just a winter haven for those fleeing the cold.

Beginning next summer, American Airlines is expanding its Charlotte-Barbados route to daily nonstop service.

That’s along with a doubling of flights to Anguilla out of Miami, according to the world’s largest airline.

Overall, the carrier says it will be serving more than 90 destinations across Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.

If you’re heading to Barbados, you’ll find a destination that’s hotter than ever, from new all-inclusive resorts like the O2 Beach Club on the newly-hip South Coast to a new-look golf community called Apes Hill to a vibrant culinary scene (one that now includes the Caribbean’s greatest food hall).

That’s along with Marriott’s large collection of all-inclusive resorts, all under the Elegant Hotels sub-brand, ranging from the adults-only The House to the beachfront Tamarind.

The Anguilla expansion is a major sign of travel demand for the destination, which welcomed its first-ever nonstop flights from the United States in 2021 when American kicked off its service to the island.

That’s part of a broader strategy by American Airlines to expand (using smaller Embraer aircraft) to destinations that had never been connected to the United States via nonstop flights — including Anguilla, Dominica and, more recently, the British Virgin Islands.

Anguilla is home to the buzzing Aurora Anguilla resort, the former CuisinArt resort that has been transformed into a new kind of luxury resort (and, perhaps more importantly, golf resort) for the tiny island off the coast of St Martin. That’s along with popular new places to stay like the Tranquility Beach resort and the ever-expanding Quintessence Hotel, among others.

“American continues to enhance our comprehensive global network with more nonstops to destinations our customers want to visit,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning.
