Dominican Republic Tourism Just Had It Biggest Month Ever

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - August 13, 2023

While much of the Caribbean has been seeing a more typically slower tourism summer in 2023, one destination continues to outpace the rest of the region: the Dominican Republic, which just had its best-ever month of tourism in July.

The country reported 792,981 visitors in July, eclipsing previous record-breaking months of July 2022 and December 2022.

Those had until now been the only months when the Dominican Republic surpassed 700,000 tourists.

It’s part of what has been a sizzling showing for the Dominican Republic in 2023, as it will almost certainly report its highest-ever total of annual visitors.

The July performance was 34 percent higher than the same month in 2019, before the pandemic, and 8 percent higher than the record-breaking July of 2022.

For the year, the Dominican Republic is reporting just under 5 million stayover visitors through the end of July.
