There’s a Hot New Mezcal Bar in San Juan, Puerto Rico

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - July 8, 2023

A new mezcal bar has opened up shop in the heart of the Santurce neighborhood of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

It’s called Club Mezcal, and it’s the evolution of what began as a tasting club in San Juan.

The new bar is set in the heart of the Lote 23 gastronomic park in Santurce, a home for more than 35 different varieties of mezcal and tequilas.

Guests can enjoy tasting flights, signature cocktails and a journey through the artisanal spirits fo Mexico.

The bar has more than 35 varieties of tequila and mezcal.

Even the cups and straws are made from the residual material from tequila production, according to founder Paul Gonzalez.

“For more than two years, we have been able to connect with mezcal lovers and foodies who

want to learn more about the mysticism of this spirit native to Mexico,” Gonzalez said. “At the same time, we have seen how the mezcal and tequila categories have taken on more prominence in the offerings of bars and restaurants and the number of brands that continue to arrive in Puerto Rico.”

Cocktails at the kiosk-style bar include two kinds of margaritas: one with pineapple tepache, the other with hibiscus tea from Puerto Rican company Alou The.

There’s also a Mezcal spin on Puerto Rico’s famous Pina Colada.

“For us, Club Mezcal is an atypical bar that allows foodies the opportunity to try something new

on each visit. Sharing our passion for gastronomy helps us innovate and contribute to the

economy of the vibrant Santurce community,” said Felix Armenteros, partner of Club

Mezcal.

Club Mezcal is open on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 PM to 10- PM.
