Why You Should Visit St Croix, USVI Right Now

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - February 5, 2023

The United States Virgin Islands has been one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean since the pandemic — leading the region in tourism growth in the last three years.

And while tourism continues to surge, it’s getting even easier to visit one of the USVI’s jewels: the island of St Croix.

A new program is giving travelers a special air credit and serious savings on hotel stays in St Croix.

The new Vibe offer includes a $200 air credit per person, along with 10 percent discounts at hotels including The Buccaneer, The Fred, Club Comanche, Sand Castle on the Beach, Company House, Hotel Caravelle and Sugar Beach.

The program applies to stays of five nights or longer.

It’s another boost for an island that has one of the most diverse tourism products in the Caribbean, from its fascinating pair of historic cities, Frederiksted and Christiansted; its spectacular beaches; its dynamic culture and one of the region’s buzzing culinary scenes.

“St. Croix captures the imaginations of its visitors with romance and adventure,” the US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism said in a statement. “There is so much to do and see in the island’s “twin cities” from Christiansted with its charming 18th-century butter-colored, red-roofed buildings and quaint stone streets to Frederiksted’s historic fort that once protected the island from pirates and rival nations. Cultural offerings include, the Caribbean Museum for the Center of the Arts, farmer’s markets, art galleries, festivals, colonial forts, and rum distilleries.”

The destination is also reminding travelers about St Croix’s vibrant undersea world, with more than 500 species of fish, 40 types of coral and a host of dive sites like the twin shipwrecks at Bubblier Bay to the Salt River Canyon’s East Wall at Barracuda Bank.

It’s the latest push for St Croix, which recently launched a new branding campaign called “St Croix, a Vibe Like No Other.”

““Our tourism marketing campaign is designed to inspire visitors to fall “naturally in rhythm” with the three islands’ diverse cultures and natural wonders,” said Joseph Boschulte, Commissioner of the US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism. “It speaks to travelers seeking an authentic Caribbean experience comprising food (think seafood chowder, Caribbean conch, innovative rum drinks), heritage, culture (music, festivals, galleries, craftsmanship), and nature (national parks) with no passport required for U.S citizens. Vacationers already know our islands for their unadorned beauty, temperate weather, unparalleled beaches, and turquoise waters. And now we are tapping into our most precious resources – our people and culture.”

St Croix is served by major airlines including American Airlines, Delta, Spirit and JetBlue, all of which offer daily nonstop flights to the island from the mainland United States.

But if you’re looking to take advantage, do so quickly; the Vibe program runs through March 1, 2023, with a travel window through April 30, 2023.

You can make your reservations directly with hotels with the promotion code VIBE2023.
