Sandals Royal Bahamian Pushes Reopening to 2022

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - June 24, 2021

Sandals Royal Bahamian has pushed back its reopening to 2022 as its plans a broader expansion project for the Nassau property.

The hotel, spa and private island in Nassau will now be reopening Jan. 27, 2022; it had been slated to relaunch in November.

“Moving the opening date from November 4 was a very difficult decision,” said Sandals Resorts International Executive Chairman Adam Stewart. “While we could reopen much of the resort, worldwide demand for commodities and supply chain disruptions are delaying our ability to complete the project’s full scope.”

“Keeping this hotel under wraps until it is absolutely ready is the right thing to do,” Stewart said. “We’re in an environment of great expectation and when our guests arrive, it will be a place of Caribbean calm and cool that will definitely have been worth the wait.”

Sandals is already adding new “river suites,” along with undertaking a refurbishment of 200 rooms and suites.

Now, the company has announced another addition — a new concept called Coconut Grove, an expansive lounge area that “extends the beach vibes to the center of the resort.”

The resort will include gourmet food trucks, seating and views o the sea.

Sandals is also reimagining its offshore private island, with a new lounge and dining concept.

Sandals’ other Bahamas property, Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma, is currently open.
