Antigua’s Hermitage Bay Adds On-Site Testing

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - January 17, 2021

The Hermitage Bay resort in Antigua has launched a new on-site testing program, the property said this week.

The launch comes amid new CDC requirements that all returning travelers to the United States present a negative result of a test taken within 72 hours before coming back to the country.

Hermitage Bay will arrange for a medical professional to come to the property to do a PCR test for all guests, “designed to interrupt the relaxation of guests as little as possible.”

The test costs $250.

“I’ve taken the RT-PCR test 4 times in the UK and no private clinic there offers the convenience of the inhouse tests we are able to offer at Hermitage Bay,” said Andy Thesen, owner of Hermitage Bay. “With regard to safety here in Antigua, the people and Government have so far done an excellent job of keeping a lid on cases. Mask wearing outside has been mandatory for months and, since the pandemic began, Antigua has had very few cases. It is definitely one of the safest destinations in the world at the present time and Hermitage Bay could have been designed for the current situation, with open air dining, masses of space and every suite an individual building, making social distancing and guest safety very easy to ensure.”

Antigua and Barbuda has been open for tourism since June. All travelers to the country are required to have a negative PCR test result taken within seven days before their flight.
