St Croix’s Christmas Festival Is Going Virtual

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - November 5, 2020

St Croix’s popular Crucian Christmas Festival is going virtual this year.

The island’s annual holiday fete will run virtually from Dec. 11 to Jan. 6, with a “robust” lineup of music, entertainment and online events, according to the US Virgin Islands Division of Festivals.

The move comes after the USVI held a very popular virtual version of its Carnival back in April, called “Home Wuk.” https://www.caribjournal.com/2020/04/18/the-usvi-is-expanding-its-virtual-carnival/

“2020 has been a year full of surprises,” said Ian Turnbull, Director of the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism’s Division of Festivals. “But we have to adapt. We know how much joy the Crucian Christmas Festival brings to Virgin Islanders and our visitors, so even though we can’t dance and revel in person this year, we can still enjoy the festival virtually and be together in spirit.”

This year’s virtual event will include everything from dialogue about the history of masquerade and the USVI’s famous “mocko jumbles” to a Crucian Culinary Showcase on Dec. 29.

The program will also include a range of musical performances, including three virtual “Village Nights”: Cultural on Dec. 25; Reggae on Jan. 1 and Calypso on Jan. 2.

The island’s J’ouvert dawn parade is also going virtual on Dec. 30, dubbed “Jou’Virtual.”
