Punta Cana Is Getting New WestJet Flights

Major Canadian leisure carrier WestJet is expanding again in the Caribbean with a new nonstop route to Punta Cana.

The carrier will be launching a new weekly nonstop route from Calgary to the Dominican Republic’s most popular travel destination, with service set to launch on Dec. 13.

“Get ready for some spectacular beach vibes this winter with WestJet,” said Arved von zur Muehlen, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer. “With our new route between Calgary and Punta Cana, along with 24 other sun destinations to choose from, WestJet is getting our guests from Alberta to the sun and sand sooner than ever this winter.”

It’s a boost for Punta Cana, one of the most popular destinations for all travelers to the Caribbean and particularly Canadians.

Punta Cana is also home to several resorts part of Canadian travel giant Sunwing’s umbrella, including four Royalton-branded resorts and two Memories resorts.

“This nonstop flight to the beautiful beaches of Punta Cana builds on WestJet’s commitment to put Calgary first when it comes to growing travel options. Congratulations from everyone at YYC Calgary International Airport,” said Bob Sartor, President and CEO of the Calgary Airport Authority.

The new flights from Calgary to Punta Cana will be operated on WestJet’s Boeing 767 aircraft with premium and economy cabin service.

WestJet also announced another nonstop route to Mexico this winter, with a new weekly route from Victoria to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.

That service will launch on Dec. 17, according to the company.
