Marriott Set to Open New AC Hotel in the Caribbean

The world’s largest hotel company is set to debut its newest hotel in the Caribbean next week.

It’s the highly-anticipated AC Hotel Kingston in Jamaica, which will begin welcoming guests June 17.

The stylish new $50 million hotel is the product of a partnership between Sandals Resorts International and Marriott International, with 216 rooms, a total of 57,920 square feet of flexible meeting space and a fitness center to boot.

True to the AC brand, there will be two food and beverage concepts: AC Kitchen, focused on a European-style breakfast; and AC Lounge, a bar-eatery with tapas and meals for lunch and dinner and a full bar.

The new hotel will even include three electric car charging stations — the first of their kind at a Jamaican hotel.

And that’s just part of a wider green push that includes 200 solar panels across the property.

It will be just the second AC-branded hotel in the Caribbean, joining the existing AC Hotel San Juan Condado in Puerto Rico’s capital.

Jamaica has made no secret of its hopes of turning Kingston into a full-fledged tourism destination, and the property will go a long way toward serving that end, with a new level of contemporary cool for the capital.

It’s also a sign of Sandals’ commitment to growing the tourism industry in Jamaica, even beyond its traditional resort hubs in destinations like Montego Bay and Negril.

It joins a portfolio of newer hotels in Kingston, including the similarly Marriott-branded Courtyard Kingston and the Spanish Court Hotel, which has long Kingston’s hippest place to stay (and recently added a second location in Montego Bay.)

That group is also growing, with plans for a new Curio by Hilton hotel also underway.
