An Island in The Bahamas for $7 Million

By: Caribbean Journal Staff - December 5, 2018

It’s the ultimate Caribbean fantasy — owning your private island.

But even for those who have the means (and the motivation) to buy one, developing it is another story entirely.

That’s what makes this currently-listed private island unique — it comes fully equipped.

This is Bonefish Cay, a 13-acre island in the heart of the Abaco chain of The Bahamas.

In recent years, it’s been developed into a full-fledged island retreat, with five buildings totaling 15,000 square feet, with a complete air conditioning system, self-generating electricity and even its own desalination plant.

Even better? It’s completely hurricane-proof.

The sprawling grounds include 5,000 square feet of living space, comprised of a “main lodge,” along with three detached bungalows, each with their own en-suite bathrooms and showers.

Overall, there are nine suites, meaning the property could even be a boutique resort.

But the real siren song, the thing that draws every private-island, is the natural beauty, something Bonefish Cay has in spades.

That means two beaches, a bay that’s home to nursing sea turtles, copious mangroves and easy access to deep sea fishing nearby.

Yes, there’s a chef’s kitchen.

The purchase of Bonefish Cay is truly a turn key experience. Included are not only the amenities of the Cay’s bungalows and Main Lodge, but the new owners will be given the keys to the island’s motor boats, jet skis, wave runners and inflatable zodiac,” says listing brokerage Christie’s International Real Estate.

It’s a short hop over to nearby Green Turtle Cay, one of the most legendary islands in The Bahamas (home to the venerable Bluff House boutique hotel).

The price? $7 million.
