By the Caribbean Journal staff

An already strong year for Antigua and Barbuda tourism continues to improve, according to the latest numbers from the twin-island destination’s Ministry of Tourism.

Antigua saw 52,491 stayover visitors in the third quarter, an 8.56 percent increase compared to the same period in 2017.

That was accompanied by 36 percent growth in cruise passenger arrivals, a total of 26,631 passengers.

The growth was driven by nearly 12 percent growth from the United States market, which continues to be the largest feeder market for Antigua and Barbuda tourism.

While a smaller proportion, the Canadian market saw overwhelming growth, with an increase of nearly 112 percent in the same period.

Total visitor arrivals for the year stand at 744,390, a jump of 12.18 percent compared to the first nine months of last year.
